  • Our Mint Julep

    Our Mint Julep

In honor of the 145th running of the Kentucky Derby we decided to add a twist to the classic Mint Julep. We started with five fresh mint leaves, 1 ounce of simple syrup, and 2.5 ounces of Larceny Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky. We added a teaspoon of rose water and poured over crushed ice. Finally we topped it off with some seltzer water.

The inspiration for this twist came from another traditional element of the Kentucky Derby; the official flower. The Rose has been the race’s official flower for a long time, and we felt it had a place in this updated classic.

    National Whiskey Day!

It’s National Whiskey Day! We’re celebrating with this modern classic…a Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cocktail. This simple drink is made with 1 part Fireball and 1 part Rumchata. There are other brands of cinnamon whiskey and rum horchata, but these are by far the most popular, and widely available. Finish this drink off with a white/brown sugar and cinnamon rim, and you have one delicious drink!

Morning Orgasm Cocktail: Cookbook Review Balaboosta

    Zoe’s Take:
    8/10

This was a really good drink (and I don’t drink bubbly stuff). Obviously, I would never choose this as a drink, because bubbles hurt my nose. But the taste was very good. Pomegranate juice, sugar, rose water and champagne? Those are the ingredients for a very tasty drink. AND, if you can’t or don’t like alcohol, you could always substitute with seltzer or something to make a non-alcoholic version that would still taste amazing!

    Eric’s Take:
    7/10

Reading the recipe for this drink I was really excited. It seemed like an expertly crafted beverage. The pomegranate juice is deliciously tart. The rose water adds a subtle floral taste that is unmistakable. It rounds out the pomegranate, and with the sugar cube, the sweetness completes the picture. The sugar also acts as a disruptor causing the champagne to continue to bubble. However, the campaign overpowered the drink and I found it lacking that wow-factor I was hoping for. I’m not sure if it would have tasted better with a different brand or not. The rose was also a bit too subtle. It was there, but hard to find. I think that I may play around with the amounts for this in the future, because it has potential to reach a 10! I also may replace the champagne with soda water, lemon juice and vodka. That combination would likely work just as well.

  • Tangerine and Thyme Martini

    Tangerine and Thyme Martini

This martini is perfect for the changing seasons. The fresh tangerine is naturally a bit sweet, and the burnt thyme gives this drink a warm bitterness. I know bitter is not typically a good thing, but trust me. This drink uses a technic of molecular mixology. Torching the thyme releases some oils, while also changing the flavor slightly. A lot of flavors comes from our ability to smell. While drinking, you’ll smell the charred thyme, giving you a multi-sensory experience.

This drink may be mostly a screw-driver on paper…but we hope you try this elevated beverage yourself (Just be careful with torching the Thyme!!!).

  • Kingdom Hearts’ Themed Destiny Islands Daiquiri

Kingdom Hearts’ Themed Destiny Islands Daiquiri

Kingdom Hearts III is FINALLY HERE!!!!! We’re celebrating by creating a drink in it’s honor!!! In the video game, the main protagonist, Sora, starts out on the tropical Destiny Islands. The Islands yield the paopu fruit, a fictitious fruit which when two people share, their destinies become intertwined. The closest thing there is to a paopu is the carambola, or star fruit. This fruit is not too strong in flavor, so unfortunately it doesn’t mix well in a drink. We added other tropical flavors into this beverage and added the star fruit as a garnish. This drink is best enjoyed while defeating the heartless.

  • Set the New Year on Fire!

Set the New Year on Fire!

It’s still the beginning of the year, and with freezing temperatures, these is the perfect drink to warm you up! This drink is similar to a Negroni, because of the bitterness of the Campari. The Scotch Whisky gives this a nice earthy flavor, with some tartness from the lime.

  • Sofra’s Chai Tea: Cookbook Review

    Sofra’s Chai Tea: Cookbook Review

    Zoe’s Take:
    8/10

I am not a tea drinker. I never have been, and no one has ever managed to convince me to like it. I’ve tried a ton of different types, made in different ways, and never liked any of them. But this tea, for some reason, is So Damn Good. The chai syrup is silky and thick with amazing flavor and mixed with the black tea and milk, it was so good. I wasn’t as big of a fan of the hot chai, but the iced chai is definitely my jam.

    Eric’s Take:

    8/10

I found this recipe delightful. I made a batch on a cold and snowy afternoon, and it hit the spot. I love tea, so I was already excited before trying it. The process was a bit long, because the Chai Syrup took some time to reduce and cool. The overall flavor was amazing. The different spices complimented each other, creating depth. I have two reasons for giving 8 points. The first point was lost because one ingredient, cardamom pods, is a bit difficult to come by. The second point was lost because I felt the syrup was too sweet. If I were to make this again, I would half the sugar. At the end of the day this was a great recipe, and I enjoyed preparing and drinking it!

  • Zoe’s Take on the Hot Nantucket Night

Zoe’s Take on the Hot Nantucket Night

The Hot Nantucket Night is generally made with Don Julio Blanco Tequila, agave nectar and lime juice.

However, I’ve never really been a fan of using agave nectar for anything that I could be using honey for. It has the same amount of calories as honey and the neutral flavor doesn’t really appeal to me.

If you’re a vegan, just know that if we don’t take the honey from bees, they end up in trouble because the hive becomes honey bound and the bees swarm and the hive ends up getting split because there aren’t enough empty combs to lay eggs for the new queen…

To make a much better drink, I created a cranberry simple syrup. As an addition to the tequila, the simple syrup gives the drink a smooth and more refined taste.
