    Zoe’s Take:
    8/10

This was a really good drink (and I don’t drink bubbly stuff). Obviously, I would never choose this as a drink, because bubbles hurt my nose. But the taste was very good. Pomegranate juice, sugar, rose water and champagne? Those are the ingredients for a very tasty drink. AND, if you can’t or don’t like alcohol, you could always substitute with seltzer or something to make a non-alcoholic version that would still taste amazing!

    Eric’s Take:
    7/10

Reading the recipe for this drink I was really excited. It seemed like an expertly crafted beverage. The pomegranate juice is deliciously tart. The rose water adds a subtle floral taste that is unmistakable. It rounds out the pomegranate, and with the sugar cube, the sweetness completes the picture. The sugar also acts as a disruptor causing the champagne to continue to bubble. However, the campaign overpowered the drink and I found it lacking that wow-factor I was hoping for. I’m not sure if it would have tasted better with a different brand or not. The rose was also a bit too subtle. It was there, but hard to find. I think that I may play around with the amounts for this in the future, because it has potential to reach a 10! I also may replace the champagne with soda water, lemon juice and vodka. That combination would likely work just as well.

Set the New Year on Fire!

It’s still the beginning of the year, and with freezing temperatures, these is the perfect drink to warm you up! This drink is similar to a Negroni, because of the bitterness of the Campari. The Scotch Whisky gives this a nice earthy flavor, with some tartness from the lime.

  • Zoe’s Take on the Hot Nantucket Night

Zoe’s Take on the Hot Nantucket Night

The Hot Nantucket Night is generally made with Don Julio Blanco Tequila, agave nectar and lime juice.

However, I’ve never really been a fan of using agave nectar for anything that I could be using honey for. It has the same amount of calories as honey and the neutral flavor doesn’t really appeal to me.

If you’re a vegan, just know that if we don’t take the honey from bees, they end up in trouble because the hive becomes honey bound and the bees swarm and the hive ends up getting split because there aren’t enough empty combs to lay eggs for the new queen…

To make a much better drink, I created a cranberry simple syrup. As an addition to the tequila, the simple syrup gives the drink a smooth and more refined taste.

    #2: Bailey’s Milkshake

    Zoe’s Take

    4/10 original recipe
    8/10 modified recipe

I dislike Guinness. I think that it just tastes really bad. So when I saw it was in this milkshake, I was not happy about it. So I made it. All I could taste was the Guinness in the original milkshake. I wouldn’t drink it past the first two sips. I wasn’t the only one who didn’t like it either. So I remade it. I switched the Guinness with milk (2%) and added an extra 2 TBSP of dark chocolate syrup. That simple switch made all the difference. Suddenly, something that tasted so bad was so good. With the milk, it felt like a real milkshake and actually tasted like something I could drink more regularly. So, if you like Guinness or Irish dry stouts, this recipe is for you. If you’re just about the awesome milkshake life, instead try my modified recipe.

    Eric’s Take

    6/10

I too am not a fan of Guinness. I didn’t mind the original recipe’s flavor though. The biggest problem for me was the proportions and instructions for this recipe. They seemed to phone it in on this one. The amount of liquid from the Guinness and Baileys made the drink too thin. I added a bit extra vanilla ice-cream to mine. In addition, instructions call for simply blending the ingredients. It seemed like there was a step missing. I also found it difficult to drizzle the chocolate syrup on the drink. That might have been the brand I was using though. I overall liked this recipe, I just think the instructions were laking.

    Autumn Toddy

As the weather begins to cool off, (since it’s autumn in New England) we begin to look for food and drink that will warm us and make us feel like Fall has finally arrived. With pumpkin spice lattes being all the rage, we wanted to bring you something a little different for National Coffee Day, as well as a little more refined.

Omit the bourbon or whiskey if you’re not allowed to drink yet, but the effect is still the same. A warm calming drink that evokes the flavors of fall many of us look for.
